What Exactly Is Holding Us Back?11.

Chapter 11 after a long time. Sorry for the wait! Enjoy!

♥CHAPTER 11♥
believe me and don't think twice

I've got a feeling you don't care.

And everything I say, you cannot hear.

So celebrate we have

'Cause I don't think I can stay for too long

I woke up thanks to the massive headache I currently have, No; I did not drink last night, as much as I wanted to after what happened. We don’t have school today; teachers thought that we’d be too exhausted to go. There’s only a month until Split Second Eternity will go on the road and a week left until graduation. Things haven’t been too great for me.

I got out of my pajamas and into my favorite pair of black acid washed jeans and a purple tee that says ‘I may be stupid, but what are you?’ and as I slipped on my rainbow-colored high tops, Derek called me and said that he’ll meet us at the mall around one, he had to pick up Jake and Aiden.

As I went out and drove to the mall I couldn’t help but think of last nights events. Was it just a spur of the moment or did feelings I never knew decided to make an appearance? I never thought I’d feel that way when I’m with Alex, I hope things won’t change between us.

I parked my car and went inside IHOP; I saw Alex and Hayley having a serious conversation. I decided to sit near their table and eavesdrop.

“Alex, I don’t think this is working out.”

“What? Why?” I’m pretty sure Alex knew why, he just wanted to hear it.

“I think you’re cheating on me” I choked on the water I was drinking.

Me cheating on you?!” Hayley was taken aback.

I decided to call the waitress’ attention and order food for me, I had a plate of pancakes and orange juice. As the waitress wrote down my order, I couldn’t help but listen to Hayley and Alex’s conversation once more. I can tell that things will not be pretty.

“Why the hell would you say that Hayley?!” He asked.

“I saw you with Cassie last night.” She tried to think of an excuse.

“Right, and I saw you with Derek earlier that night you saw me. I was comforting her, because of what you two did!” He looked really mad, I’ve never seen him like this before.

“W-what do you mean?” Caught in the act, best friend.

“That’s right! I saw you practically fucking my best friend and your best friend’s boyfriend!”

“Alex, it was not what it looked like!” Oldest excuse in the book.

“What do you mean ‘it’s not what it looked like’ Hayley, I saw you with my own two eyes! Don’t lie to me. How could you?!” I can practically hear him breathing. Hayley stayed silent, ashamed.

“Do you really love me Hayley?” Alex asked a few minutes later.

“Alex, it’s not wha-” Alex cut her off.

“Do you really love me?”

Awkward silence anyone? I don’t think I can finish my pancakes, I lost my appetite. Hayley decided to answer, breaking the silence. Trust me, her answer would shock even the dead.

“…No Alex, I don’t love you.” I heard a chair shuffling, probably Alex walking out.

I put my money on the table and followed Alex, but by the time I found him he was with Derek and the guys. I decided to talk to Derek.

He saw me walk up to him, he smiled. He won’t be smiling when I do this. SLAP! That’s right, I slapped the bastard. ‘Round of applause for Cassie!

“What the fuck Cassie?!” He held his now red cheek.

“That’s what you get for fucking with me.” I was about to walk away but he grabbed my arm.

“What do you mean? Guys leave us alone for a minute.” The guys left, probably heading to the food court to stuff themselves.

“What I mean is, you know how I hate people cheating on me!” I blinked back tear that were threatening to fall, Derek’s face became pale.

“What? Please explain to me what you’re saying Cassie.”

“Derek, I saw you with Hayley last night near the garden.” I crossed my arms.

I heard him mumble an ‘oh shit’. Oh shit alright.

“Derek, why did you do it?”

“I don’t know.” He looked down.

“Did you enjoy it-” he was about to answer but I cut him off “-answer me truthfully Derek”

“…Yes.”

“Then I have no point in being with you anymore. Goodbye.”

As I walked away, I heard Derek shout

“You never really did love me! I can see it in your eyes!”

I stopped for a moment but walked away once more. It was true, I never really did love him. But here I am, crying my eyes out. I saw Alex at the food court, I ran into his arms and let the tears come out. I heard Axel and Aiden talk to Alex, telling them that they’d see him later at the after party, Alex nodded his head and resumed to comforting me.

Alex led me to my car and he decided that I wasn’t in the right mind to drive, he drove us to what I assume was his place.

He led me to a door that had police line tapes all over it, I was pretty sure it was his room. He opened the door and led me to his bed. No, we did not do anything you naughty people. We talked about stuff that wasn’t about Hayley or Derek.

Around six-thirty we both sat up and got ready for the after party.

He drove my car to Victoria’s mansion. I can hear the bass a mile away, as we got nearer the music could be heard. We went inside and we were greeted by the smell of sweat and beer. Just what I need.

As I was getting myself a drink, I bumped into Derek. Oops.

“We need to talk.” He whispered into my ear, I just nodded. He led me outside and began talking.

“Cassie, I know what I did was wrong and I’m sorry. I know saying sorry won’t bring our relationship back, but I really want us to be friends. If that is alright with you. And I-” I interrupted him with a hug.

“I forgive you Der, being friends would be alright.”

“Besides, you’re in love with someone else. I can see it.” He sent me a smile, not an ‘I’m-in-love-with-this-girl’ smile but an ‘I-know-something-you-don’t’ smile. I couldn’t do anything but look down as I felt the heat on my cheeks rise.

“I’ll see you later Cas, enjoy the party.” He walked away, leaving me to think of what to do.

I went back inside and saw a very drunk Hayley flirting with a very sober and annoyed Alex. I grabbed a drink and began chugging it down. I loved the burning feeling it gave me, soon I was on my second cup, then my third.

Soon I lost count of the cups I had taken, I went to the dance floor and danced until I got exhausted. I felt someone pull me and lead me to my car. I looked at the person, it was Alex.

“Hey mister, look. It’s Dora the Explorer buying whiskey!” I pointed to my left. I heard him chuckle.

He drove us to his house and set me down on his bed. He gave me a shirt that was a little bigger than me and a pair of basketball shorts. I successfully changed into them without passing out. When he was putting me on his bed, I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him. He pulled away and told me I was drunk.

“I love you Alex” I said.

“No you’re drunk, I’ll see you tomorrow” He was walking away.

“Wait! Where are you going?” I asked, half-sober.

“To the guest room”

“No. Stay with me” I whined.

“Are you sure? I mean you’re drunk and all-”

“Yes, come!” I motioned him to come.

He turned off the lights and I could hear clothes being thrown to the floor.

I felt someone beside me, Alex then wrapped his arms around me.

“Good night Cassie” He said. But I heard him mumble an ‘I love you’. What he didn’t know is I heard him.
”Good night Alex” I responded and also mumbled an ‘I love you’

With that I drifted off to sleep.
