What Exactly Is Holding Us Back?1o.

I know it's been like ten years since my last update of the story. But here it is, the much awaited chapter!! CHAPTER 10!!! Hurray! Cheer with me! If you don't, I'll bite you. Rawr.

♥CHAPTER 11♥
This could be all that I've waited for

‘Maybe it's not my weekend
But it's gonna be my year
And I'm so sick of watching while the minutes pass as I go nowhere
And this is my reaction
To everything I fear
Cause I've been going crazy I don't want to waste another minute here’

Prom night, a.k.a. cram just so you’ll look beautiful night. This year’s prom theme was fairytale masquerade. Hayley decided to drop by and help me ‘look fabulous’.

I was dressed in an ivory Victorian gown; it had little roses in it. All in all it was beautiful. Hayley however decided to wear something more revealing, as I put it. She was wearing a blue bubble-ish dress that stopped mid-thigh; did I mention it was strapless? I don’t know what’s in her system but that’s so wrong. She makes me look like the most gorgeous girl when I’m next to her.

She also decided to look like a clown tonight; she wore cherry red lipstick and blue eye shadow, let’s just say she looked like a whore. Because of that, I refused to let her do my make up. My hair was styled into loose ringlets and my make up was just my normal make up, lip gloss and eyeliner; but Hayley didn’t approve with my make up. Seriously, what’s wrong with this woman?! Has she been hanging out with Victoria and her group of demons?

She fixed my make up, turning my dull make up into a mysterious non-me look. My eye make up was shadowy making my eyes pop; my lips were covered in a light pink lip gloss making it shine. Alex and Derek were picking us up from my house at seven; the prom starts around seven-thirty. It was already six-fifty five; they should be here any minute.

At exactly seven, the sound of the doorbell filled my house signaling that Alex and Derek were here. My mom opened the door and let them in; I know--big shock there, my mom’s here. Hayley and I were coming downstairs only to be blinded by flashes of the camera, courtesy of my mother and Carla, Hayley’s mom.

“Mom, stop it. I got to go to prom!” Hayley whined.
“Oh hush now dear and just smile, Alex could you put your arm around Hayley. Yes like that” Carla instructed Alex and began taking pictures again. Meanwhile, my mom is also doing the same with me and Derek. Can’t say it didn’t annoy me.

“Mom, I think the battery’s running low.” I lied.
“Honey, I know how to work this camera. I just charged it, it’s impossible for it to be running low.” She explained.
“Dang” I mumbled, making Derek chuckle.
“Can’t get away when you’re mom knows how to deal with technology now can you, sweets?” Derek teased.
“Shut up and let’s go.” I gave him a playful smirk.
“See you Mrs. Avery, you too Mrs. Smith.” Alex bid them goodbye as we headed out the door, ignoring their complaints.

We rode in Alex’s car; it had more space than all of our cars. It was a black 2009 Hummer H3 SUV. Usually, Alex would drive it but tonight he decided to let their driver, Danny do it.

Alex and Derek were wearing tuxedos making them more handsome than they normally would. I couldn’t help but stare at Alex, his icy blue eyes piercing my boring grey ones. I mean yeah, I know Alex is handsome but tonight, he’s more than that. The way his hair is tossed to one side making it look like every single strand was carefully moved to that side. His lips moving as he talks, did I mention his smile is practically a smile of an angel sent from heaven? The way he smiles, it’s just so heart-stopping. When he smiles, it reaches his eyes and you can’t help but smile back. Wait, hold up. What the hell?! Why am I thinking like this? I have a boyfriend for Pete’s sake.

I shook my head, ignoring all of these thoughts now swimming around my head. I can’t be falling for Alex right? Right. That’d be so wrong. Big no there my friend, big fat no. I decided to focus my attention on Derek and somehow I can’t help but compare them to each other.

When Alex smiles, it’s so contagious.
When Derek smiles, it doesn’t make me feel any different.

Alex can turn something so plain and boring into a complete work of art.
Derek can’t do that, he tries but he just can’t.

Alex can come up with a song on the spot.
Derek takes a month to come up with a song.

Alex’s eyes puts me into a trance.
Derek’s eyes doesn’t, well it used to.

This is one thing I just realized.

Alex makes my heart flutter.
Derek doesn’t.

When we arrived at the hotel where our prom is being held, Alex and Hayley went into the center of the room and began dancing, along with our other classmates and schoolmates. We saw them and began laughing, soon we began joining them and having the time of our lives.

Two hours later, we were completely exhausted and decided to take a seat. Derek and Hayley went to get us drinks, meanwhile, Alex and I were just chatting.

“So Cassie, how’s the prom so far?” He started.
“It’s probably the best one I’ve been to.” I answered honestly.
“Well, I’m glad to hear that.” He smiled, making butterflies appear in my stomach. What the?!
“Why’s that?” I asked.
“It was really hard to think of a theme in a day you know.” He smirked.
“What do you mean?”
“Didn’t Hayley tell you? I’m this year’s head of the prom committee!” He sent me a smug smile, I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Really! That’s awesome! And no, she didn’t tell me.”
“How about we go outside? It’s really loud in here.” Alex suggested, I nodded my head.

Few minutes later, we were currently at the hotel’s garden. We sat on the bench located near the fountain and began talking again.

“How’s the band going?” I asked, looking at him.
“We’re good. I’m just really in a daze, you know?” He looked at me
“Why?” I asked
“It feels like this is a dream. Us being big seemed like a fat chance, but here we are having fans, signing autographs, and interviews. It’s so overwhelming in a good way” He smiled.

Then the most out of this world thing happened, no there wasn’t an alien wanting to eat our guts and probably probe us; we both stared into each other’s eyes. I felt Alex’s thumb stroke my cheek, sending me into frenzy. Then I heard someone moaning, way to ruin the moment. I got up and decided to go to where the sound is, Alex followed suit.

I gasped at the sight. Derek was practically having sex with Hayley, I was standing there watching them. I never thought Derek would do this to me. I felt Alex pull my arm and he began taking me to his car. He drove in silence as I fought back tears that were threatening to fall. I know I shouldn’t feel this way especially if I don’t feel the same way Derek feels, or so I thought he did. I just hated being cheated by someone you care for. It hurts me a lot.

We arrived at my house, I thanked Alex for driving me and got off. I went inside the house and into my room, then I got out of the dress and took a shower. When I was done, I wore my red plaid pajama pants and a white tank top. Somehow I couldn’t fall asleep, seeing it was only nine-thirty. I lay on my bed, thinking. A few minutes later, I heard a noise.

There it was again. Tink tink tack! I got up, irritated. I followed the sound, it was coming from the window. I opened it and glared at whoever was doing that, I saw that it was Alex, my glare softened.

“Alex what the hell are you doing here?!” I whispered/screamed.
“Come out.”
“What?” I was shocked.
“Come out” He said again.
“Why?” I wondered.
“Quit the questions and just come with me okay?” He smiled.
“Fine. Wait, I’ll change.” As I was about to walk away from the window, he called my attention.
“What now?” I asked.
“Don’t bother changing, it’ll be real quick.” He said.

I sighed and walked out the door, I did not bother changing. I met with Alex, he had that stupid contagious grin on his face.

“What do you want?” I asked.
“Come with me.” He started walking south, towards the park.
“Are you okay? Answer me honestly” Alex asked as we sat on yet another bench but this time at the park.
“Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?” I asked.
“That’s weird, considering you’re boyfriend just cheated on you.” Alex was shocked.
“I know. But I don’t want it to get to me.” I whispered, truth is it was starting to get to me.
“Cas, it’s okay. You’ll find someone better.” He assured.
“No, it’s not. How could he?!” Tears were flowing now.
“Maybe he was drunk?” He suggested.
“No, he’s never like that when he’s drunk! It’s just so mean.”
“Shh. It’ll be okay. I’ll talk to him tomorrow okay?” All I could do was nod my head.

Alex hugged me and allowed me to cry and possibly ruin his shirt, but he told me he could care less about the shirt all he cares about right now is me. I had to smile at that, but I just couldn’t. When I finally had no more tears to shed, I looked up at him.

“Alex…” I stared at his gorgeous blue eyes.
“Yeah?” Alex once again stroked my cheek, wiping the tear marks.
“Thank you” I whispered, my voice was raspy due to my sobs.
“No problem, I’m always here for you.” He said, kissing my cheek.

You know I would’ve jumped and danced because of my happiness, but that’d ruin the moment. Alex brought me back home and said good night. I hopped on my bed and re-think the events today, some prom this had to be. I fell asleep with only one thing on my mind, more like one person.

Alex.
