What Exactly Is Holding Us Back?o3.

I find this site better than any story site I've went to. Weird. But when I'm finished posting about half of my story, I'll go back to telling you about my day and other stuff worth typing in this thingy.

♥Chapter 3♥
Coffee Break

‘The word is out; this town it never sleeps
A feeding ground for those who still believe,
Kissing curbs to bide our time.
On this last night to feel alive, we will never leave this place behind.’

“Why are you still here? Is there something important you want to talk about?” Alex asked.
“Is it wrong to visit my dear friend Alex, who I haven’t seen in three months?” I cried in mock horror.
“Well, uh…no, but I’m supposed to meet someone…important” He whispered the ‘important’.
“Oh really? Who?” I smirked.
“It’s…um…never mind, I don’t think she got my note. So I better get going.” He started making his way to his car.

‘This is going to be fun’ I thought.
“Hey Alex!” I called.
“Yeah?”
“You mean this note?” I showed him the note he left in my locker earlier. His face was between confused and shocked, I bit my lip to keep myself from laughing.
“H-h-how did you get that?!” He seemed mad. Not angry. Mad.
“Well, I got it in my locker this morning. Since when was I called Hayley?” I smirked.
His once anger-filled eyes turned into soft and apologizing ones. He took deep calm breaths to relax himself.
“Why don’t you say we talk this over a cup of coffee? My treat” He suggested.
“Well, since I do love caffeine and free stuff. Sure.” I smiled and began my way to his car.

In a matter of minutes, we arrived in starbucks. I got off the car and Alex followed suit. As I opened the door, the sweet aroma of coffee beans and whipped cream met my nose. Its smell intoxicates me. Since it was late in the afternoon, there were only few people inside. I told Alex that I would get a mocha frappe and sat down on the booth in the farthest side of the shop, where there was peace and quiet. Once he finished placing our orders, he went to my place and took a seat opposite of mine.

“So…” He trailed off. I played with my hands while waiting for him to continue. When he didn’t, I looked up and met his gaze. It looked like he was waiting for me to start talking. Oops.

“What were you going to say to Hayley?” I asked, getting straight to the point.
“I’ll tell you if you promise not to laugh and or tell Hayley. Pinkie swear?” He said, holding out his pinkie.

‘Aren’t we a little too old for this?’ I thought.

“Okay fine. I won’t tell Hayley and or laugh.” I said, sticking out my pinkie and locked it with his. He took a deep breath, I watched him. Breathe in. Breathe out. In. Out. Boy, this is getting annoying.

“Are you telling me what the deal is or not?” I asked, annoyed.
“Okay, here it goes. I-” “two mint mocha chip frappuccino blended coffee with chocolate whipped cream for Mr. Alex!” The cashier cut him off.

He grunted and got off his seat and went to take our beverages. I kept myself busy by looking at the people walking in and out of the shop. When he arrived, he went back to his seat and gave me drink.

“Well?” I pursued.
“You never give up, do you?” He sighed. I shook my head ‘no’ and waited.
“You see…I have…this…thing…for Hayley.” He bowed his head to hide his pink cheeks. I already know that he likes Hayley. I mean, any girl with eyes could see the way he looks at her, the way he talks to her, the way he moves when he’s with her.
“You do?” I asked. I wanted to make sure he really liked my best friend, not her popularity. He lifted his head. He had this confident and sure look on his face and it sure made his eyes.
“Yes. I do. I like her.” He said.
“Aww…That’s so cute!” I pinched his cheeks.
“Shut up!” After that confession, we started talking about random things like school, music, life, random peoples’ choice of clothing and things we did over the summer. I don’t know why but I had a great time with Alex. He knew how to take care of serious matters in a fun way. When we finally finished our drinks, it was already 9:03 pm. He decided to drive me home since it was too late to walk.

“Now that you know I like Hayley, is there anyone that Ms. Cassandra Danielle Avery is interested in?” He asked. We were on the road and no cars were in the way, making it easier and faster getting home.

I blushed; I couldn’t tell him that I liked his best friend Derek, it would be too weird. On the other hand, he did tell me that he liked my best friend. I’ve got nothing left to lose right?

I took a deep breath and answered, “Y-y-yeah. I am interested in someone.”
“Really? Who?” He smiled.
“I like…I like…” I bowed my head and whispered, “Derek.”
He made a sudden stop, I held onto the arm rest for dear life. Thank goodness for seatbelts.

“You…like Derek?!” He asked, surprised.
“Yeah. I like him. Why?” I tilted my head; I must’ve looked like a confused puppy.
“Nothing…It’s just weird, you liking my best friend and me liking your best friend.” He said.

Come to think of it, he’s right. Whoa, this is so weird.
“Now that you mentioned it, it does sound weird.”
When the conversation ended, we arrived at my house. I told him that I’d keep in touch and made me way out of his car.

I went up to my room and decided to take a long shower. I stripped out of my clothes and stepped into the shower. I felt all the stress and events of today go away. After my thirty minute shower, I grabbed a pair of spongebob short shorts and a violet ‘All Time Low’ T-shirt and some underwear. I brushed my teeth and went to my bed and start drifting off to ‘la la land’ when my phone buzzed.

I suddenly felt the exhaustion overcome me. With that, I fell asleep anticipating what tomorrow will bring.
